If you want to stay close to home, the “Venice of the Cotswolds”, Bourton-on-the-Water awaits, revealing its unmistakable olde worlde charm. Just four miles away and resting within the gentle Cotswold hills, this English gem is the place for calming walks along the river Windrush, afternoon tea in the most quintessential of English towns and there’s even a model village to take a peek at if you fancy. Or, if you’re fan of four wheels, then the Cotswold Motoring Museum will have plenty to keep you occupied. You will already be enjoying the wonderful 17th and 18th century buildings which are just a stone’s throw from your cottage door in Moreton-in-Marsh and if you fancy stepping back in time 200 years or so, then an 8-mile trip to Chipping Camden needs to be on your list. History positively wraps itself around you here, as you marvel at and follow in the footsteps of those who’ve walked before you 600 years ago, down the still beautifully preserved High Street. After you’ve immersed yourself in one of England’s best kept secrets (shh…don’t tell anyone…) you might want to relax at National Trust’s Hidcote Manor with its Arts and Crafts-inspired garden.


A little further afield from your cosy luxurious holiday cottages in Moreton-in-Marsh, there are further impressive architectural delights to explore in one of the UK’s best loved spa towns – Cheltenham. At just an hour from Moreton-in-Marsh by car or add another half hour for the train journey, Cheltenham has something for everyone.


As well as being the most complete Regency town in Britain, Cheltenham is the home of elegant shopping, soothing spas and it has its very own museum – the Wilson, Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum. Plus, it has its very own Victorian Theatre and let’s not forget the world-famous race course!


And last but not least, the home of the Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare, is just 16 miles away in historic Stratford-upon-Avon.
